Forest Retreat
I love the woods, especially old growth woods on mountains. There’s an energy unique to them that is like nowhere else. A deep sense of timelessness and harmony. From towering giants to tiny colonies of mosses and lichen, from small wrens to soaring eagles, from trickling springs to raging glacial run-offs – and then the wildflowers (oh my!) and rich scents… All of it washes away the cares of human life and fills me with wonder and oneness. I was thinking of this as I tracked down a well warn trail, desperate for time away as often as I needed it. I so wanted a renewed sense of purpose for the job I loved and my busy city life.
And there it sat by a sweet little stream - a rustic little cabin of odd shapes and cracked windows, mysterious cubbyholes and a strange lookout tower. I think you can guess the rest – it had been abandoned for a decade, awaiting its next occupant and its own renewal. We were a perfect match!
